Chamberlain to acknowledge the receipt of your letter

M/FW/E of the 21st instant regarding the dangers

incurred by officers of the British merchant service

on account of the prevalence of piracy in Chinese

waters.

2. This serious question, together with that

of measures to be adopted to meet the danger, is

receiving the careful attention of His Majesty's

Government.
